My images abstract subjects including a lamp, bedsheets, hair brush, cups, and fish bowl rocks. For some of these pictures I had to make myself a bit higher than the subject. For others I just got really close in order to get the basic shape of the subject. For most of my pictures I increased the contrast and made it black and white so that the focus would be the shape rather than the color. In these images I use rhythm, shape, texture, harmony, and balance to make them pleasing to the eye. These images most resemble the photographer Bourke-White because of our use of shape and rhythm. I liked my images overall, the only thing that I would do differently is maybe use more simple objects or maybe cleaner objects (because my house is full of dust.)

These images illustrate movement through the rhythm of each photo as well as the blur. The blur that occurs in a couple of the photos gives the photo a sense of motion. I used a fast shutter speed for must of my photos since I was trying to capture my subjects mid-motion. I used rule of thirds, line, and rhythm
in my photos. In photoshop I brought out the color using vibrance, hue/saturation, and brightness. These photos can tell a little about my life because they were taken either on my way to school or in school. Overall I wish I had better subjects to work with or could have familiarized myself with taking pictures of motion a little more. |

I took portraits of my friends Xavier, Lily, Grace, Chika, and Kerry. In most of the photos I tried to place their face in the left or right points of intersection in order that I would be using rule of thirds and rule of space. I think these pictures are able to reveal their personality through the up-close angles. Each picture reveals a different personality trait whether it be serious, angry, dramatic, or happy. Every picture required a different aperture and ISO setting due to the dramatic changes in light between the portraits. Most of the portraits I took were of some pretty pale people so I had to appropriately adjust my settings. In Photoshop I altered the exposure, brightness, color, and framing. I also used the spot-healing brush to make their skin appear clearer. I liked my photos, and I love Xavier, but I wish I used a larger variety of subjects. I hope that in the future I will be able to find nice settings rather than Bishop Stang and my house.

I chose these five pictures to depict nature. The concept of nature is shown through every plant, twig, shell and drop. Nature may usually be thought of as the outdoors, but most of these pictures were taken indoors of plants in my house (and Xavier's house). In the photo of the droplet I used the composition technique of rule of thirds and line. In the portrait photo of the plant, I used rule of space. In the picture of the leaves I used rhythm and shape. I used Photoshop in these images by cropping them, color-correcting them, editing the hues, and sharpening the images. Cropping them allowed me to put the subject in the area that would draw the most attention. Color correcting and editing the hues allowed my to brighten the images and bring out the colors I wanted. Sharpening them allowed me to make my subject clear. I think overall my photos came out okay. If I did this assignment again I would go somewhere with nice scenery or just go out on a day with nicer weather.
